The Vivo V27 5G is a stunning phone with elegance and premium quality. With its slim profile, curved display, and glass panel at the back, it offers a sleek and sophisticated design. Our review unit, in the captivating Magic Blue colorway, showcases a mesmerizing marble-like rear panel that shifts color while in the sunlight.
Similar to the V27 Pro, the V27 embraces a dual-curved design, where the back glass and display gracefully curve towards the edges and seamlessly converge with a slim plastic frame. This design choice imparts a luxurious aesthetic and tactile experience. However, depending on one’s perspective, it may slightly compromise grip and handling. The frame, in particular, can make it slightly challenging to pick up the phone from a flat surface like a table.
The design is minimalistic, with ergonomically positioned buttons and ports, and the back features the vivo branding along with a silver camera module housing three lenses and a built-in mini ring light.
While carrying it in the hand, it gives pretty vibes and is so lightweight as it weighs just 180g. Though its camera protrudes slightly noticeably, you should care if you put the phone on the table more forcefully.
Display

Vivo boasts an impressive 6.78-inch full HD (2400 × 1080p) AMOLED display that offers a remarkable visual experience. With its support for a 120Hz refresh rate, this feature proves to be highly beneficial while browsing the internet, scrolling through social media platforms, and engaging in graphics-intensive gaming activities.
In the device’s settings, three modes are available, which are common among modern smartphones: 60Hz, 120Hz, and Smart Switch. The 60Hz mode is straightforward, as the phone consistently operates at a 60Hz refresh rate, and all applications are capped at 60fps.
The Smart Switch and 120Hz modes function similarly, utilizing the maximum 120Hz refresh rate across the user interface and supported applications. However, for static images, video playback (excluding the video UI), and incompatible apps like Google Maps and the Camera app, the refresh rate switches to 60Hz. Both modes also support high frame rate (HFR) gaming if the game allows it.
Performance

The vivo V27 5G comes with the MediaTek Dimensity 7200 chipset, which is accompanied by a Mali-610 MC4 GPU. It offers a generous 8GB and 12GB of RAM, and there is an additional 8GB Extended RAM feature available. In terms of storage, it provides up to 256GB of internal storage, but unfortunately, there is no option for expandable storage via microSD.
I find smooth scrolling and seamless app switching. However, the phone heats a little bit while gaming but I think that’s pretty normal. Overall, the RAM management on the Galaxy M14 was quite satisfactory.
To further assess its performance, we conducted synthetic benchmark tests. In Geekbench 6, the device achieved a single-core score of 1176 and a multi-core score of 2633.
The AnTuTu score shows a score of 627664. It defeated the 1% of users. The battery performance and stress management were pretty good.
OS and UI

Talking about the OS, just like its counterpart, the V27 Pro, the regular V27 runs on Funtouch 13 layered on top of Android 13. Although there is no official confirmation on the V27’s future updates, it is delightful to have the most up-to-date Android version pre-installed, eliminating the need to wait for an update.
Specific pre-installed bloatware can be annoying as they deliver daily notifications, but fortunately, they can be uninstalled or their notifications can be disabled.
The transition from Funtouch 12 to 13 doesn’t introduce major changes, and utilizing a vivo device still delivers an experience that deviates from the conventional ‘stock’ Android, but not necessarily in a detrimental way.
Camera

The V27 vivo sports the same camera configuration as V27 Pro for both the front and back. The rear camera setup consists of a 50MP primary camera with optical image stabilization (OIS), an 8MP ultrawide lens, and a 2MP macro lens. As for the display side, the V27 features a 50MP selfie camera with autofocus (AF).
The device’s primary camera utilizes a Sony IMX 766 1/1.56″ Quad-Bayer sensor, featuring 1.0µm pixels. It is accompanied by a stabilized lens with a 23mm equivalent focal length and an f/1.88 aperture. The photos by the primary camera are so stable. The camera feels so smooth while capturing pictures. Here are some samples.
With the V27, you have the option of using portrait mode at both 1x and 2x zoom levels. At 1x zoom, you can capture photos with the main camera’s original field of view, resulting in higher per-pixel quality. On the other hand, at 2x zoom, you can achieve a better perspective for your portrait shots. In both cases, the V27 excels at subject detection, and the default blur level effectively creates a convincing bokeh effect.
The modest specifications of the ultrawide camera enable a fair assessment of its photo quality without raising unrealistic expectations. However, the resulting images show average sharpness and detail.
The V27’s basic 2MP macro camera surprisingly captures decent close-up shots. Despite the limited resolution, the detail is sharp and well-defined. The camera’s dynamic range performs well, and the colors appear vivid.
The Night mode significantly improves how point light sources are displayed, making them more precise and reducing the halo effect and burnt-out areas. It also enhances the definition of shadows, adding more detail. The sharpening effect is increased, resulting in a distinctive photo. Overall, the Night mode delivers impressive results.
The V27 captures stunning selfies that leave a lasting impression. The level of detail in the photos is superb, with minimal noise interference. Additionally, the V27 accurately reproduces skin tones, resulting in natural-looking selfies. The camera’s impressive dynamic range ensures well-exposed self-portraits, even when faced with challenging backlit conditions.
With the Vivo V27, the primary rear camera allows video recording at a maximum resolution of 4K@30fps. Nevertheless, if you desire a higher frame rate of 60fps, you’ll have to settle for a resolution of 1080p. The same applies to the selfie camera, and the ultrawide camera on the back is also limited to 1080p@30fps.
Battery
The V27 shares the same battery capacity as the V27 Pro, with a 4,600mAh battery. Based on our review, it has impressive battery performance, we had high expectations for the standard V27, and it certainly delivered as anticipated.
The vivo V27 specs list a maximum charging rate of 66W, and that’s also what the bundled charger is rated for. The charging was full under an hour. The battery life is pretty impressive. It depends, on what you will do, if you play games, then the battery could drain faster otherwise, it will impress you though. Also, don’t forget its 4600 mAh battery.
Rest of the features
However, considering its price, it’s a bit disappointing that vivo opted for a down-firing speaker instead of a stereo speaker setup like some of its competitors. This choice might have made the device feel more premium. Nonetheless, the speaker quality is satisfactory, offering decent loudness and good sound reproduction.
Talking about connectivity, the Vivo 27 offers optional Dual SIM support with SA and NSA 5G compatibility. It also includes a GPS, GLONASS, GALILEO, and BDS receiver. While it is a basic single-band unit, it provides the necessary positioning services. For local wireless connectivity, the phone supports dual-band Wi-Fi ac and Bluetooth 5.3.
Talking about the fingerprint sensor, there is no complaint.

Conclusion
The V27 has attractive features like its color-changing back and slim design. However, it also has impressive internal capabilities. It stands out with a bright display and offers excellent battery life despite its slim profile. The efficient chipset performs well in most tasks compared to competitors, although it’s not as powerful as the Pro version.
The V27 has a capable camera setup, with the primary rear camera performing well in different shooting scenarios, including short zoom shots. The selfie camera is particularly exceptional at capturing still images.
If we oversight the speakers and ingress protection, Vivo V27 is a superb and classy premium midrange phone.
